Champat Rai knew about the theft since May 26, and ₹5 lakh was recovered from Avinash Shukla's premises on June 5 — raising the question whether the temple trust tried to hush up the larger theft as a minor case with local police help.

“सवाल यह है कि क्या इस चोरी को मंदिर ट्रस्ट छोटा-मोटा मामला बनाकर स्थानीय पुलिस की मदद से रफादफा करना चाहता था? ऐसा हम इसलिए कह रहे हैं क्योंकि चंपत राय को इस चोरी की खबर 26 मई से थी। इसके बाद 5 जून को आरोपी अविनाश शुक्ला के ठिकाने से ₹5 लाख कैश बरामद किए गए थे।”
